Newchurch v Haylands
The U9’s played their first game of the league season away at Newchurch.
It was an end to end game with the players getting used to each other in a newly formed team this season. Newchurch started brightly and their opening goal came from a well worked counter attack from a Haylands corner.
The 2nd goal followed quickly but this didn’t deter the Haylands players. At half-time the score was 2-0 but Issac in goal had made some great saves, Lucas some fantastic defensive headers and Finlay worked tirelessly in midfield.
Straight after half time, Leighlan struck a fantastic free-kick into the bottom corner from long range. Newchurch responded well with 2 more fine goals, but this was not the end of the scoring. Lucas made a great pass into Leighlan again who tucked the ball home from a tight angle.
A great start to the season and as a team the players worked hard for each other. Final score 4-2.
Jay, Year 4, did an amazing job as manager and team tactician for the match!!
Squad: Issac, Lucas, Katie K, Leighlan, Finlay, Reuben, Alfie B and Oscar (captain).
Girls Football v Wootton
Another great sporting performance from our children.
We played our first girls league match against a strong Wootton team.
On a hot evening the game started with both teams having attempts on goal, Kaila made a few early saves and showed bravery diving at the forwards feet. Wootton scored a well worked goal half way through the first half.
This only proved to spur our girls on with Lily Mae scoring after some great passing from Amelia and Amelia. With the score at 1-1 at half time, both teams had chances to score, but Wootton proved the more clinical, clinching the win with a scrambled goal before the end.
A fine performance and a great start to the season for our newly formed girls team.
Final score 2-1.
Squad Kaila M, Kacie H, Sara M, Eva O, Amelia D, Amelia A, Lilli Mae G, Sarah P.
Player of the match Lilli Mae.
Girls Football v Nine Acres
The girls football team put in a great performance in the cup tonight away to Nine Acres. Going 1-0 down in the first half the team fought back strongly in the second half to run out 3-1 winners and progress to the next round. The goals were scored by Sarah Pugmire (2) and Amelia Armstrong, all of which were set up by the outstanding Amelia Day. Great team spirit and special mention for Lilly Mae who worked tirelessly in midfield and Kaila Mason who was excellent in goal!!
SQUAD: Kaila, Sara, Kacie, Amelia, Amelia, Lilly Mae, Sarah, Jasmine.
Haylands, St Blasius and Nine Acres Triangular Qualifying Round Girls Cricket Competition
On a wet and grey evening the Haylands girls played in their qualifying round of the girls cricket competition. They met St Blasius in the first game and with some confident hitting and great running between the wickets amassed a total of 263 for the loss of only one wicket. The St Blasius team fought hard but Haylands bowling and fielding was excellent to keep the score to 234-6 and comfortable win.
The St Blasius v Nine Acres game ended in a win for Nine Acres meaning the final game effectively became a knock-out match. Haylands won the toss and chose to field first. With some really straight bowling and super catching from both Alana White and Amelia McCarthy the home team restricted Nine Acres to 233-4. In reply Haylands started slowly, under pressure from some brilliant bowling and fielding from the Newport school. With overs running out and the scores getting close Sienna and Maddie were left needing 6 runs from the final 6 balls of the game. They unfortunately only managed 3 leaving the final score 231-4 and an agonising 2 runs short of qualifying for the next round.
TEAM: Zoe, Sienna, Katelyn, Maddie, Amelia D, Amelia Mc, Alana, Charlotte.
