Welcome to Class 4B! Please take a look below at the exciting things we are currently learning and will be learning during Spring term.

 

Maths

In Maths we have developed our knowledge of fractions and will explore geometry. Following this there will be a continued focus on addition and subtraction, as well as multiplication and division. The children will use TTRS to practise their multiplications so they are ready for MTS in the summer. 

 

Reading

We have begun using Grammarsaurus for our Reading this academic year and have read about dental hygiene and the importance of looking after teeth. Future reading units include the iron age and a story around the rainforest. 

 

Writing

We have started the year in Writing by looking at the Place Value of Grammar and Punctuation. We have used this as a new approach to writing lessons. Following this, we have started to construct non-chronological reports on fictional extinct animals. Proceeding this unit will be writing a diary entry around the book 'Charlie and the chocolate factory'. This academic year we have also started to look at morphology as our approach to Spelling. 

 

Art

We will explore sketching and answer the question, 'why do artists keep sketchbooks?'

 

Science

This term we will explore animals including humans, particularly focussing on teeth and dental hygiene. We will explore the importance of looking after your physical health as a human being. 

 

Geography

Later this term we will begin our Geography where we will learn about map skills. This will involve a school trip in March where we use map skills in our local area to discover humand and physical features.

 

DT

In DT we will be designing and creating a functional book bag. We will explore the most appropriate and suitable materials and will conclude by evaluating created products.

 

PE

In PE this term, children in year 4 will be exploring a range of dances and technical terms such as unison and canon. In Spring 2, the children will continue to develop skills in gymnastics.

 

Computing

This term children are learning about programming. We will explore the importance of programming being accurate. Using the programme 'Turtle Academy', the children will plan an algorithm and create an algorithm using their plan. 

 

MFL

In spring term, the children will be learning about the words for clothes in French. We will explore the use of determiners and adjectives with these french nouns.

 

Music

We are developing the musical skills of singing and listening. Additionally, we will discuss our thoughts on the use of a round.

We were fortunate to have members of London Sinfonietta visit our school and deliver a very engaging, enjoyable workshop with the children. 

 

PSHE

In PSHE, the children will be exploring thoughts, feelings and behaviours both inside of school and outside of school. In addition, the children are learning about their brains through My Happy Mind. This term, we are looking at the 'appreciate' module. The children are developing an 'attitude of gratitude'.
