Class 3A

Welcome to Year 3A

We are a class of enthusiastic writers, artists, readers and so much more...

Join us on our learning journey and follow our progress. Below you will find content around our topic lessons and photographs of our exciting experiences.

We follow the Haylands READY Values every day: Respect, Excellence, Aspiration, Determination and You Matter. These values guide how we work and learn together, helping to create a positive, supportive classroom environment where everyone can grow.

Our Curriculum

Science

Animals including Humans

During our science lessons this term we have looked at how amazing our bodies are! We are leaning about the names of some of our bones in our skeleton and why it is important that we have one.

We will be learning about how our muscles work and how they work with each other to make our body move.

Furthermore, we shall be looking at our diet and how our diet can help our body perform.

Reading

For our first reading unit we shall be reading about the human body, linking to our science lessons. We will be learning about different strategies we can use to help us understand new words.

Furthermore, we shall learn how to select and retrieve information from a text to answer different questions, using skills such as skim and scan.

Maths

Autumn 1

3.1 Number - place value; addition and subtraction.

With our first maths unit, we shall be learning about different strategies we can use to support our addition and subtraction, such as knowing our number bonds to 10, and how this can help us when going into hundreds and partitioning numbers to support our subtractions.

We will be using a range of resources to support our learning such as dienes and counters.

My Happy Mind

We are a My Happy Mind school, and this term we have been busy meeting our brains! We have learnt about how our brains work and what happens when different parts of the brain take over our thoughts and feelings.

We have explored how our feelings and actions are linked, helping us to understand how our behaviour can be influenced by our emotions. We have learnt about happy breathing, which helps us to calm our bodies and take control of our brains when we feel angry, stressed or sad.

These lessons have helped us to build confidence, resilience and positive strategies to support our emotional wellbeing, both in school and at home.

English

Grammarsaurus

With our new grammarsaurus writing, we are learning about different word classes, such as different types of nouns and verbs. We shall learn how sentences are constructed and how we can use this to create our own sentences.

History

In History during the Autumn term sees Year 3 travel back  in time to learn about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and early human history. We will explore how people survived during these times by learning how they found food, what they wore, and where they lived.

We will look closely round houses, discovering what they were made from and why this shape was useful. We will learn  how these homes helped to keep people warm, dry and safe.

Through stories, discussions and activities, we will compare life in the past with life today and learn how humans adapted over time to meet their needs. This topic helps us develop our understanding of history and will spark our curiosity about how people lived long ago.

The Arts

In Design and Technology, Year 3 will be developing their sewing skills by making a Stone Age pouch. The pouches needed to be functional, allowing a Stone Age person to carry different items.

We will be looking at stone age art, sculpture and painting and learning about contemporary sculptures.

Computing

This term we will be learning to log on and off as well as exploring the different uses of digital devices.  We will use a paint package to create our own pictures and compare them to more traditional forms of artwork.
