We follow the Haylands Values every day: Care, Respect, Co-operation, Independence, Imagination, Enthusiasm, and Perseverance. These values guide how we work and learn together, helping to create a positive, supportive classroom environment where everyone can grow..
Important dates:
6th February - Winchester science museum trip.
Science
Animals including Humans
During our science lessons this term we have looked at how amazing our bodies are! We have learnt the names of some of our bones in our skeleton and why it is important that we have one. We also looked at some animal skeletons to see how they differ from us.
We looked at how our muscles work with each other by making a cardboard construction of our bicep and tricep to see how they contract and relax.
We have looked at how our diet helps our body to function.
Forces and magnets:
In our next topic in Science, we shall be doing a range of experiments to see how forces can move a range of objects over different terrain. We intend to look at how magnets work on different objects and how different magnets can work differently depending on how strong they are.
History/ Geography/ Art and DT/ Computing
History
During our Stone Age topic we embarked on a journey through human history ending in the Bronze Age. We discovered how, throughout human history how we have survived through different times by looking at how we dressed, what our homes looked like and how we searched for food.
Geography
In our Geography topic we have been using Atlas' to discover what countries, regions and counties are in the UK. We have learnt about the different types of settlements. We have looked at a range of maps and how they use keys to show information.
Art and DT
Through our art topic, we looked at how we can use clay to make sculptures. We focused on artwork from Mexico and what features are seen in this artwork. We then made clay cacti using these features.
In DT we used sewing skills to make stone-age bags. These needed to be functional for a stone-age person to be able to carry different items.
Computing
In computing we aim to use scratch to learn how coding works. We will enter different code to make our sprite do a range of commands.
Maths
Autumn 1
3.1 Number - place value; addition and subtraction.
With our first maths unit, we have looked at different strategies we can use to support our addition and subtraction, like knowing our number bonds to 10, and how this can help us when going into hundreds and partitioning numbers to support our subtractions.
3.2 Addition and subtraction with measurement.
Autumn 2
3.3 Multiplication and division
3.4 Fractions and Geometry
Spring 1
3.5 Number - place value with measurement
My Happy Mind
We are a My Happy Mind school and we have been meeting our brains. We have looked at how our brains work and what happens when different parts of our brain take over. We have learnt about happy breathing and how this can help us take control of our brain when we feel angry, stressed or sad.
English
Grammarsaurus
With our new grammarsaurus writing we have been looking at how sentences are constructed. We have learnt about the different nouns we use within our writing and the different verbs we use. We have played lots of writing games to help us learn what collective and partitive nouns are and the difference between irregular and regular verbs.
Non-Chronolgical report
During our first writing journey, we read about Prehistoric Park, a fiction text about a park that has created its own creatures. We have been learning how to use a range of tools to help us describe these creatures, and our own, to give more detail to them, so people will want to come to our park to see these creatures.
