Learning means the world

This term we have been learning about 'the visionary' Ada Lovelace. We have learnt about why Ada is a significant person in history. Additionally, taking inspiration from the creations by Ada Lovelace, we have designed flying machines. These flying machines had to meet a set criteria. Once complete, we evaluated these and discussed what went well and how they could be improved if we designed and created them again.

Maths

For the first 3 weeks of this term, we explored multiplication and division. This involved understanding different ways of showing a multiplication fact and division fact. We have also started to develop our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.

For the second half of the term we will continue to explore number with addition and subtraction. This will be followed by taking a few lessons to further understand statistics. This will involve pictograms and tally charts.

Writing

In the first half of this term we have developed writing around the book 'Peter Pan'. We culminated this learning journey by retelling the story of Peter Pan with our own alternate ending.

In the second half of this term we will be looking at the book 'How to be a Pirate?' The focus of this learning journey will be writing instructions.

Reading

We have begun developing reading strategies around the book. 'The Big Book of the Blue'. We have started to develop strategies around selecting and retrieving, clarifying and responding and explaining.

As well as weekly reading lessons, every child in class has been developing their reading through their 3 weekly reading practise sessions. The focus of these has been around decoding, reading with prosody  and reading comprehension.
